cash book

Definition:

also written: cash-book. Abbreviation: CB. A section of a ledger containing the cash account and bank account. Sometimes, a note is made in the cash book of discounts received and discounts allowed on individual transactions, and periodically totals of these individual discounts are posted to the discounts allowed and discounts received accounts rather than recording the individual discounts in those accounts. A cash book in which discounts are not recorded may be called a ‘two-column cash book’ while one in which discounts are recorded is called a ‘three-column cash book’.
