debit note

Definition:

a document stating that a debit entry has been made in an account and stating the amount of the entry and the reason for making it. A debit note is sent by a customer to a supplier to inform the supplier that the amount recorded in the customer’s accounts as owing to the supplier has been reduced because of an allowance, return of goods or cancellation. In America, called ‘debit memorandum’.
