joint product

Definition:

one of two or more products of manufacturing or processing in which, initially, a single stream of materials and components is operated on until a ‘separation point’ after which different products are operated on separately. Products are called ‘joint products’ if they are of approximately equal significance; if one joint product is relatively less significant than the others it may be called a ‘by-product’. In America, a separation point is called a ‘splitoff point’.
