net assets

Definition:

the total assets of an accounting entity less its total liabilities. In this context, ‘liabilities’ includes long-term loans and provisions. This definition is the same as that given for the purposes of the Companies Act. If liabilities exceed assets then the difference is called ‘net liabilities’ and the entity is absolutely insolvent. See also the entry for ‘equity’.
