will

Definition:

a statement made by an individual of the gifts of that individual’s property to be made after the individual’s death. A will may also exercise a power of appointment by which the individual makes a gift of some other person’s property. Also called ‘testament’ or ‘will and testament’ (in the past the words ‘will’ and ‘testament’ were thought to refer to statements disposing of different types of property, but there is no agreement on which types of property the two words referred to).
