It’s adding up to a big success!

Lancaster Accountant, Mark Ellis, an ACCA and CIPFA member with over 20 years’ experience in public practice and higher education is celebrating the success of his new mobile App, called Accounting Dictionary, which has achieved over 15,000 downloads having been launched only 3 months ago.

Created, compiled and developed by Mark on the back of his successful website Accounting Dictionary, Mark explains the rationale. “I set out to create an accessible collection of accountancy terms and abbreviations to assist students, accountants and finance staff, together with business owners trying to understand what accountants are talking about or indeed anyone with an interest in finance.”

The benefits of the Accounting Dictionary App are numerous. It contains a continually expanding collection of over 4,400 accountancy terms, abbreviations and definitions. As well as related entries, an in built search facility, lists of most popular terms and recently added terms, the App works both on and off line meaning that once downloaded an internet connection is not necessary.

Clearly the App has proved extremely popular no doubt because it is one of the largest collections available and is dynamic with continual development and of course it’s free of charge.

The Accounting Dictionary App is available on both Android and iPhone platforms. There is a free Lite version, which is fully functional and includes discreet advertising or users can choose the Pro version, which is the price of a cappuccino and is advert free.

Mark is keen to involve the accounting community. “There are opportunities for accountants and students to enhance the collection by suggesting additional entries or amending existing ones. In return they help to grow the dictionary and receive an acknowledgement and a link back to their own organisation both within the App and on our website.”
